Brian Dux Update

Well last night WIVB has a little Brian Dux update on how he is doing from his almost fatal crash in England several months ago.

Brian Dux, "Physically, I'm not up to par yet, but even mentally I understand everything and I think perfectly normal I just can't speak and communicate the same, ya know"

Dux has been home for almost two months and his parents have had to renovate their Orchard Park house to accomodate his needs. It all adds up and friends and family formed the Brian Dux Assist Fund with a a major fundraiser Saturday night.

Brian plans on attending the fundraiser and he plans on walking again, sooner, rather than later.

Brian Dux, "First things first, I would like to get back to walking again and live a normal life for sure. Secondly, I would like to continue playing at some point, but, that's in the future, ya know?"

Well I am very glad to see that Brian is doing better. Plus its great the community is coming out to help him. He has always been a nice guy, that wants to help and never use his status to demean. Hes been a star at College and he was a star in England, well Guildford. But he'll need all the support he can get for the type of injury he suffered. If Canisius was smart, they'd make him an honorary coach next year. For what he gave to Canisius the least they could do would be assist in his recovery.

Help out Brian Dux

We've been covering the Brian Dux accident for a little bit now, since A) Hes a fellow Griff and B) Because I want to, since its worth spending time on. But since hes come home and the cost of care will be very high for the situation he is in. Fundraising for his Rehab is underway. And I think its a worthy cause to donate to. Here is what is going on and what is coming up.

Beiswanger and other committee members have made plans for at least four fundraising efforts to funnel that support into some help for his family:

• The Brian Dux Assist Fund — a bit of a play on words for his prowess as a point guard who dished out so many assists — has been created, with his parents as trustees.

“It is a trust that will be used only to meet the special needs Brian will be facing,” Beiswanger said.

Donations, made payable to the Brian Dux Assist Fund, may be sent to the fund, c/o M&T Bank, 4084 N. Buffalo St., Orchard Park, NY 14127-2445.

• A major event is being planned sometime in March, possibly at a large downtown venue. Again, in keeping with Dux’s love of basketball, the event may be timed to coincide with the NCAA basketball tournament that month.

• Paul Vukelic, president and chief operating officer of Try-It Distributing Co., has issued a challenge for other business leaders to match his donation.

“As the CEO of our company, I decided to donate $2,500 and challenge any alumnus, CEO or anyone who would want to match that,” he said. “I wanted to do it out of compassion for him and his family.”

Donations may be sent to the same Brian Dux Assist Fund.

• Wristbands, in Canisius College’s colors, are being sold for $10 apiece at the Boys & Girls Club of Orchard Park.

The adult wristbands are dark blue with gold lettering, while the kids’ bands are gold with blue lettering.

The band Five to One also will hold a fundraiser for Dux from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in Sportsmen's Tavern, 326 Amherst St. Admission will be free, but donations will be accepted and patrons will get a free Five to One CD for every $10 donated.

Brian Dux is a good guy and needs our help to assist in getting him back to health. It will take plenty of time and money. So anyone that wants to help, its a worthy cause.

Brian Dux update

Well I wish I could say I have some good news, but things aren't looking good for Brian Dux.

"Guildford Heat Basketball Club this morning confirms that the injuries sustained by point guard Brian Dux in the early hours of Saturday morning appear to be potentially far worse than previously thought. Discussions between Dux family members and Frimley Park Hospital consultants have now taken into consideration the possibility that Brian Dux may have suffered permanent disability from his single car automobile accident."

"After speaking with Brian Dux’s parents, Mark and Lynda last night, Heat head coach Paul James had this to say, “Last night I spoke at great length with Brian’s family and the news I received left me very shaken. While there still remains a great degree of uncertainty about the extent of Brian’s long term injuries the fact is clear that they are now indeed very serious. His brain has suffered significant trauma and doctors are concerned with the amount of time Brian remained untreated in his car before he was rescued. He has yet to regain consciousness and the wait for this to occur may go on for quite some time. Brian is still in a stable condition, and the hospital are carrying out more procedures to aid recovery and to keep him comfortable.”

Well thats some news I didn't want to hear, but it seems he will survive so thats a positive, and he can fight back from there. He obviously didn't quit on his basketball dream, so I don't see why he would give up here. Well my thoughts and prayers are out for you Brian.
