This weekend in Canisius Athletics

Another weekend and another weekend of losses for the good guys. One of those losses is a very bad sign of things to come, and might make for a historically bad year for the Griffins.

Mens Basketball

The Griffs went on the road to take on a old rival from the Little 3 days. Anytime you head down to Olean, you're gonna have a tough time, though of late the Bonnies have been pretty bad. But the Bonnies were 3-4 going into the game and the Griffs standing winless at 0-5. If you went just by records you would have been right. The Bonnies came away with a 80-64 win. With the Griffs getting out scored 44-33 in the second half. Which led to this quote by the fearless leader Tom Parrotta.

"If it was a 30 minute game with two 15-minute halves, we would have been OK tonight,"

Well its not, so you weren't ok. That statement doesn't make any sense, you might have well added, if our baskets all counted for 5 points, we might have won. Yes that might be true. But thats not how the game is played. That is a statement that hides the fact your players aren't coming together and aren't very good. This is a bad basketball team. I'd tell you who did what but it doesn't really matter. Just look at the Boxscore. To see that no one shoots particularly well and they commit way too many turnovers.

Womens Basketball

The women went into Dayton to take on a beatable Wright St. and walked out with a loss, since they forgot how to shoot when they left town. The fell to .500 (3-3) with a 57-40 loss. The leading scorer Amanda Cavo had rough night with only 9 points and shooting 2-15 for the night. But she wasn't the only one not able to convert shots the team only shot 21.1% for the night. When your opponent shoots 45% in the 2nd half and you shot 20% you will lose every time. Cavo was the leading scorer since no Griff was in double figures for the game and Mere Mullins led with 8 rebounds on the night. I don't see trouble for the ladies, as they had one bad night, as will happen in college basketball. They just need to minimize these games in the future if they have any postseason hopes.
Hockey

At least one of these teams won a game this weekend as on Friday the Griffs shut out Mercyhurst 4-0. Hudson, Kasch, Heidinger and Weeks scored goals for the Ice Griffs and Andrew Loewen got his first shutout, so congrats to him. But in college hockey you come right back and play the same team the next night, so what happened?

They lost 5-2. Consistency isn't one of the Ice Griffs best attributes. Weeks and Brown scored for the Griffs, with Andrew Loewen coming back in and giving up 4 goals. The 5th was an empty netter. Well whats a weekend with a Ice Hockey loss, really. The weekend leaves the Griffs on the year at 3-10-2, nice this team is going places.
