Taken from article on the Canisius website.
In front of 1,131 fans, the Canisius College hockey team won its home opener, dominating defending league champion RIT, 6-2. The Griffs picked up its first victory of the season and improved to 1-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in Atlantic Hockey play, while the Tigers fell to 2-3-0 and 1-1-0 against league competition.
I've seen Canisius play RIT before and they got blown out, so going out and beating them pretty good at home is surprising. So 11oo fans thats prettty good.
The 1,131 fans is attendance was just 104 shy of the Buffalo State Sports Arena record of 1,235 fans, who saw the Griffs battle Niagara on Jan. 22, 2004
Hey who did all the damage you may ask.
Senior David Kasch led the Griffs offense with two goals. Sophomores Josh Heidinger and Peter MacDougall each tallied a goal and an assist, while sophomore Carl Hudson and freshman Vincent Scarsella rounded out the scoring for Canisius.
Senior Bryce Luker (pictured) recorded 36 saves in goal in earning his first victory of the season. Luker anchored a Canisius defense that held RIT, which entered the game ranked fifth in the country in scoring offense, two goals below its season average.
If you want to see some decent hockey for cheap head down to the Buffalo Sports Arena and check out the Ice Griffs. You won't believe how close you can get to the action. So take the kids, I'm sure they'll be into it. Its cheaper then a Sabre game and you'll probably see more heart out there on a consistent basis.
Next home game is 11/30 against Mercyhurst.
